Brain Tumor usually presents with chronic headache, vomiting, seizures, weakness of limbs and sometimes loss of consciousness. The brain tumour could be benign or malignant. The Most common beningn tumours are meningiomas, dermoids, pituitary tumours, CP angle tumours. The Malignant tumours include Glioblastoma, anaplstic astrocytomas, metastasis. Tumours can occur in childhood and the most common tumors are medulloblastomas, ependymomas etc.
Brain tumors are diagnosed by clinical examination and imaging studies which include CT scan, MRI, MRS, PET scans. Depending on the tumour location, patients require craniotomy and excision, decompression of the tumour followed by histopathological examination. Further treatment may be required with radiotherapy and chemotherapy depending on the tissue diagnosis and recurrence.
Other symptoms are – giddiness, visual loss, facial weakness, forgetfulness etc.
